Inspired by a belief in the power of story, and working in collaboration with our funding partner, NHS Cumbria, local people responded to a public invitation to inspire others by sharing their stories to influence change. Living with the memory of conversations held or avoided with loved ones, their stories offer us all an opportunity to consider what we’d want for our care and why we need to talk about this now.
An introduction to this film is shown below. Messages from the full film and stories are explored in public and staff workshops delivered by facilitators trained in our approach. Product packs for educator/facilitators and the public will be available in 2015.
In addition to being used in training for more than 2000 health and social care staff in the UK, we are delighted to announce that Breaking the Silence was accepted and shared at the 2015 American Public Health Association Film Festival for it’s public health message.
More about our approach to integrating film in social change initiatives can be found at www.storiestochange.org.
